Fun Fact: Drink Before You Do Something Stupid

I just thought this would be an interesting read for your Friday. Nice and light-hearted to ease you into the relaxing (hopefully) weekend.

Have you ever seen the show “Jackass” or one of the other similar shows? If not, the idea is simple: You watch guys do stupid things to each other which usually include some combination of urine or feces, genitalia, pain, falling from high places, blood, and a group of friends laughing at the person as they get a free ride to the hospital.

That sequence of events gets played out everyday all across the country by the shows endearing fans.

jackass

Are they drunk? Or just stupid?

Probably drunk. And probably stupid. But their real motivation is greed.

They know that a bunch of 13 year olds will keep their eyes glued to the TV watching. They will ask their parents for the season DVDs and money to go see the movies. And as long as they say “Don’t try this at home” they won’t be held liable!

But let’s go back to the drunk thing. Why did my title say to drink before you engage in stupidity?

According to BBC News:

A dose of alcohol may be a good treatment for people with head injuries, emergency doctors suggest.

Their basis for this is the discovery that people appear less likely to die following brain trauma if they have alcohol in their bloodstream.

Interesting findings, and I’d like to see where it leads. I am sure they will do a lot of testing to see if they can utilize ethanol as a treatment for people with head trauma.

PLEASE NOTE:

But they stressed that alcohol can cause medical complications and is contributory to many accidents.

Experts cautioned people should not interpret the findings as an excuse to drink more alcohol.

On the flip side, patients with alcohol in their bloodstream were more likely to experience medical complications during their hospital stay.

So, as they say, don’t take this as an excuse to drink and do stupid things.

My title was more in jest as I think it’s a real interesting medical finding. It seems they are always going back and forth on things like alcohol and drugs and there effect on people.

Have a Great Weekend

Don’t do anything stupid ;)

Heh, that’s kind of hilarious. Of course, you need to balance out the anti-inflammatory effects with the blood vessel dilating effects (which make you feel warm when you drink, by the way), which will make you bleed more if you get a cut or other sort of puncture wound. Sort of a toss-up as to whether alcohol is plus or minus should you get injured…
