Weekly Mashup: 15 Hour Days

I just started my new job on Monday. My first day wound up being a 15 hour day! OUCH. Things are pretty messed up here as far as staffing is concerned. The inmates have been running the prison (as the saying goes) for the past 4 months. Last night was only 9 hours, though, so no complaints there!

I wanted to remind everyone that I am currently hosting a giveaway for “So Many Shoes, So Little Money.” The book is a basic personal finance book that caters to people who really enjoy fashion and shopping. There are less than 5 entries, so everyone who enters has a very good chance of winning!

Here are some top posts from this week:

All You Need to Know About Renter’s Insurance

Let me give you a quick scenario.

You go out on a date with a girl you have been crushing on for months. It is going great so you guys decide to go back to your apartment to… you know… play Scrabble. You get back to your apartment and realize you have been ripped off. Do you have enough money to replace your laptop, HDTV, and Xbox 360?

Let me throw another scenario out there.

New neighbors move in and bring over a jello mold. You, being the equally friendly neighbor, invite them in for a drink. You hit it off great and are excited about the new neighbors. On the way out, one of them trips over the rug, smashes into your wall, and gets a concussion.

Would you be concerned? I sure

Reasons You Do Not Have a Job This Summer

As the summer nears its end, there are still many 20 somethings that are either college graduates or returning college students that have still not found a job. You can blame the economy, you can blame your location, or you can read this article about reasons why you do not have a job this summer:

    Reason #1: Your resume sucks.

Taking the resume template from your cousin Steve and changing some of the information on it will not work wonders for your job hunt. This was my strategy in high school when trying to find minimum wage work at grocery stores, but when trying to find

To Prepay Your Mortgage or Not?

This is a question I have heard discussed quite frequently… especially recently. I’ve heard it from both family members and co-workers.

It’s a good question and one I love to hear. Often times I believe the people have reached the wrong conclusion, but the important thing is that they are thinking about their financial situation.

If you do the wrong thing but had the right intention, I couldn’t give you more credit. In the end, we can educate you to make the right decision for the right reasons.

    The Question

A typical question might be framed as:

My husband and I owe another $60,000 on our house (mortgage) which has a fixed-rate interest rate of 5.25%. We have
