HLR reviewed "So Many Shoes, So Little Money" a few weeks ago. At the end of the review, she gave her thoughts and recommendations:
It’s crucial for everyone to have at least a basic understanding of personal finance. It is usually not taught in school. Children often do not learn it from their parents (and in some cases, learn detrimental habits from parents). So, if this type of a book engages women (or men!) who are highly fashion-conscious, or who have closets overflowing with designer nametags, then more power to Serwin. If the clothing-related metaphors cause more people to learn about responsible finance, then that is terrific and this is 100% for them.
So, with that being said, I am sure we ALL know at least one person who could benefit from this book. Which is why I decided to host a giveaway for it!
There are four ways to enter for a chance to win, read the instructions below and good luck!
1) Comment on this post
- Instructions: Each comment you place on this post from now until 8/14/09 will be counted.
- Rules: Only one comment per person.
- Method: I get e-mails for each comment I receive on my blog. I will move all of these e-mails into an outlook folder to keep a record of who has commented.
2) Tweet this link
- Instructions: Let others know about the giveaway by tweeting the link! Something like “[FREE] “So Many Shoes, So Little Money” — Finance Book for Shopaholics at @MyLifeROI http://bit.ly/QneIJ ″ or “RT @MyLifeROI is giving away a FREE copy of “So Many Shoes, So Little Money” — Finance Book for Shopaholics at http://bit.ly/QneIJ !”
- Rules: I’ll only count one tweet per person.
- Method: I will search twitter for that exact bit.ly URL. If you use another URL I have no way of checking to see if it has been sent! I will create a file in outlook with your information and tweet and move it into the aforementioned folder.
3) Link from your blog
- Instructions: Let others know about the giveaway by linking to this page from your blog.
- Rules: I will only count one link per person! If you have linked me, just email me and let me know. Usually trackbacks work, but I want to be positive I give you credit!
- Method: I will move the email into the aforementioned folder.
4) Follow the RSS only instructions
- I will send instructions to just my RSS subscribers sometime this upcoming week! Check your feed reader. The title will be something obvious like “RSS ENTRY NOTIFICIATION: “So Many Shoes, So Little Money” Each RSS Subscriber can enter once.
When all is said and done, you can potentially get 4 entries, greatly improving your chances of winning!
General Rules/Methodology
- Rules: On top of all of the aforementioned rules, your state must allow you to win free contests.
- Deadline: The contest will run until August 14th, 2009. At 11:59pm I will close off any further entries.
- Methodology: Since steps 1,3, and 4 will all be in email form, they will be easily moved into a folder in Outlook. The only thing I need to manually do is step 2. I will manually create a file for each tweet and place it in an outlook folder. I will then generate a random number using Random.org. The oldest email/file will be #1, counting upwards until I reach the newest email/file in the folder.
- Notification: I will publish a post on August 15th or 16th announcing the winner. I will also attempt to notify the winner via email or Twitter, so make sure your email is valid when you post a comment!
GOOD LUCK!
This can be a very informational book for certain people, so I wish you luck in winning it!

It sounds like an interesting book (albeit, more appropriate for someone like my middle sister than for me). Count me in, I suppose.

This sounds like a great book and you are right most parents or schools don’t teach personal finance and that is a shame. Because in this day and age it is even more important than before.
