My parents established a good foundation of not relying on credit cards to purchase items. Even though the system was in place to purchase items on time or put on them layaway, I never saw them overwhelmed with debt or stressed out due to finances. In fact, I never realized how poor we were until I was grown. My goodness, I thought, how did we make it?

If only we could always remember these great sayings! Once we are reminded of them, we are automatically triggered to put them into practice. Parents would do well to write them up on a memory board or even on the fridge.
