Welcome Bible Money Matters Readers!

For those of you that are visiting after reading my post @ Bible Money Matters, I am glad you liked my g/f’s post enough to stop by! :)

bmm

If you were to go ahead and click on “archives” above you would find a decent amount of posts to read through. I consider all of the content related to personal finance in some way — either by being about your career, education, debt & credit, taxes, or teaching smart financial lessons to young children (family and relationships).

This is all what I like to refer to as “sensible” personal finance. I write about things that I think will add to enjoyment in your life. If you are a huge fan of extreme frugality I probably won’t post much about that because I don’t practice much of that. Occasionally I will, but not often. You will find I post more about ways you can save a lot of money OR add a lot of quality to your life. Slashing your cable bill? Check. Repairing your own bicycle? Check. Finding out if your pay is competitive within your company? Check. Making your life more green? Check.

To lighten the mood and bring the weekend in… every Friday I post an original comic that is created by my girlfriend and relate it to a financial, educational, or career issue.

I think you will find a lot of useful information on this site. Whether my content is relevant to you or someone you know, I urge you to subscribe to my site’s feed for a week or two and see if you like what you read. If you do, pass it on to someone who could also find my posts informative! As an added bonus, if you subscribe to my feed, over the next few weeks I will be having a giveaway for just my RSS subscribers. The winner will receive a $10 gift card to Global Giving. I was inspired by the first post in the list below, another post from my g/f.

I thought it would be helpful to go and link a few articles that may be of interest to you… so enjoy!

  • The Savings Account, The Spending Account & The Charity Account – One thing that my blog offers that not a lot of blogs do (not sure of any, at least!) is that both my girlfriend and I write posts. She has just started writing and the post linked is her debut. She goes over her childhood and how her parents instilled the need to save and donate before she was allowed to spend. This instilled in her a certain empathy that has carried into her adult life — and show she is much more open to donating money and volunteering time.
  • Spring Cleaning Checklist: Medicine Cabinet – Peter recently ran a week long special about emergency preparedness. I liked the series because it reminds us that we always need to be prepared. I am sure he wasn’t expecting that fire to come so close to his community. I wrote an article on one part of the home people often forget about: the Medicine Cabinet. Check and make sure you are ready for emergencies in this part of your house!
  • Slash Your Cable Bill w/ These 3 Methods – A series of posts that I wrote to help lower your cable bill. I hate paying for a cable bill. Why? Most of the TV shows I watch are available online! I go over how to connect your computer to your TV, how to make your Xbox 360 wireless for only $20 which then allows you to stream video and music from your computer to your TV, and how to stream Hulu/YouTube/CNN/ESPN/etc to your TV using an Xbox 360 or PS3. By doing a combination of those options you may not even need to subscribe to cable, I know I don’t!
  • Glass Door : Know Your Worth – A large part of personal finance is either decreasing your costs OR increasing your income. I like promoting this site because not many people seem to know about it. I don’t get anything for promoting it, it is not an affiliate program… just the satisfaction of knowing someone might get paid more because of it. Sign up and you can look up the salaries for a lot of different jobs at a lot of different companies.
  • Student Loans Driving Your Career? – This post is a look at how graduates are weighing their career options based on the amount of student debt they have and the potential income from employers. Will this equate to happiness or not? You decide, but I don’t think so. I think we all need to factor in costs before we jump into a school loan!
  • Graduate Without Debt: Wrap-up – A series of posts that I hosted across 3 other bloggers. I made a post for Jim @ Bargaineering, Green Panda Treehouse, and Stephanie @ Poorer Than You. I detailed all of the ways in which a student can graduate without debt. These three core concepts entailed savings vehicles, financial aid, and reducing costs. PARENTS, one of the articles is aimed at you and has to do with proper financial planning from when your child is born, or even earlier!

There are plenty more posts but I thought I would start you out with a few!
