Pretty cool. With the price at $2.79 a gallon here in Texas, I'm definitely going to try this.

I just found this post - but I've been using Filemaker's Bento on my iPhone to keep track of fuel mileage, price per gallon, and cost per mile for a year or so. I can fill it out while I'm at the pump. It's worked well.

I can recall when the cost of a litre of fuel in Melbourne cost as little as 25 cents a litre! man that must make me an ancient. That was back around 1966. Then again my weekly pay packet was only around $65. Everything in perspective I suppose. That system sounds very interesting. I guess a saving of $120 is a saving of $120...better in your pocket than the fuel company.

@Matt @ StupidCents,

That's exactly how I started. A spreadsheet. But as I mentioned, this just told me my miles per gallon.

I liked Fuelly cause it broke it down to me in more understandable/meaningful data: cost per mile. Now THAT tells you something!

Obviously, a spreadsheet could do that, I just prefer to have it on a website I can access from anywhere and see how I stack up. In re: to how I stack up, the environment does play a role... but when you have 200 people with your car and you are on the bottom end of the spectrum, that probably has a bit to do with driving habits.

And don't remind me about the $1 gas, ugh... if I were in high school right now, I don't know what I would do. Work a 4 hour shift at Best Buy for $32 or so but pay $5 in gas. That's 15-16% of my daily earnings!

I've always just used a spreadsheet just to see how my car is performing initially. I would be curious to see how my driving habits compare to others, but I think environments play a big role.

I remember the days of sub $1 gas - I can't imagine being in school with high gas prices now.

Stupidly Yours,

@Kyle,

Haha, exactly. As I said... my MPG was a decent bit lower than other drivers of the same car.

Fuelly definitely alerted e to the fact that I was driving with a lead foot. It was only costing me the $120, I suppose. But that doesn't factor in future maintenance costs and safety concerns.

@MoneyEnergy,

It is definitely a great program to make tracking easier.

The Corolla's and Accent's are almost identical in terms of MPG. I think the Corolla's are nicer cars overall, though. That's just my opinion, though. I haven't had a problem with my Accent so its not a bad car either.

And yeah, isn't that crazy? I always get the bug to get a nice car... then I stop and tell myself "That car is half your income.." "That car is more than college cost you.." etc

I would be scared to see how my Gas Mileage compares to others with the same car. I have a lead foot most of the time, of course tracking it like this may make me more aware of what that lead foot is costing me.
