Memorial Day 3-Legged Race = FAIL (Comic #14)

A Slight Deviation from the Norm

I normally post a comic and relate it back to some education, career, or finance issue. The posts are never very substantive, but they do have some substance and I think they are a great light-hearted way to go into the weekend.

As we all know, this weekend is Memorial Day. Memorial Day in the United States (for those of you who are out of the country) is a holiday to commemorate U.S. men and women who died fighting for our country. It was originally created to honor the men who died fighting to preserve the Union during the Civil War, but after World War I it was expanded to include all military personnel.

With that being said, it is a very noble & special weekend and I think the best way to celebrate it is to douse ourselves in American things: BBQ, Beer, and Football.

3-Legged Race = FAIL

Have you ever heard of FAIL blog? It is just pictures and videos of failure after failure. Some are stupid, some are funny. But it usually has to do with some sort of play on words, irony, or just plain ol’ failure.

When my girlfriend showed me this comic, my first reaction was laughter and a thought to myself “This is straight out of the books of Fail blog…” And then it was “Oh, but I can’t put that on my site!” But then I realized, my readership, along with most PF blogs readership, is smarter than the average bear.

I think I have drawn out my disclosure long enough :p, so without further adieu, here the comic is!

14-carnival

To all of our servicemen, this ones for you.

For everyone that is celebrating on Memorial’s Day, take a second to remember the true purpose of the day… to recognize the sacrifice many men and women have made to defend our country.

Without their sacrifice, we would not be able to have a 3 day weekend from our blue and white-collar jobs where we get to relax and enjoy our insanely high standards of living (comparitively across the world). So, quite frankly, thank you for all the dedication you all have put forward.

If you would like to help…

There are a lot of great charities that focus on the military. If there were a time to give, now is that time. It’s Memorial Day weekend and there are men and women scattered across the globe that put their lives on the line day-in and day-out.

  • Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund - 100% of contributions raised by the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund go towards programs. They provide support for the families of military personnel lost in service to our nation, and for severely wounded military personnel and veterans.
  • The Armed Forces Foundation – They provide direct financial support for service members and their families for things like everyday living expenses, transition and career counseling, housing improvements, and funeral arrangements.
  • Veterans of Foreign Wars of the USA - Its mission is to “honor the dead by helping the living”through veterans’ service, community service, national security and a strong national defense. They have helped fund the creation of memorials, given out college scholarships, and more.
  • These were 3 of the notable foundations I thought worthwhile to point out, there is a much more extensive list at Military.com.

If you have any charities or foundations that you would like to recommend in particular, please do throw them in the comments as it may help someone make a decision to donate either their time or money.

Have a Great Memorial Day!

Be safe and have fun. See you all on Monday or Tuesday. Not sure if I am posting on the holiday, yet :)
