@ Baker –

I read somewhere that the process is also slightly different. Apparently they have to drill a little deeper for silver fillings than white fillings. I don’t know if that is bogus or not… but check it out. You may have to factor in how much you are willing to pay to forgo discomfort :)

This is a well-timed post for us. My wife and I have been recently fighting with our dentist and insurance company. WE have a couple cavities that need to be filled. Our current dentist only fills them with “white” and not “silver.” Our insurance considers “white” to be a cosmetic procedure (50%) and “silver” to be covered up to 90%. It’s retarded. So now we have to find another dentist who takes our insurance and does offer “silver” fillings. I just want to bang my head on this keyboard as I type.
