Welcome to the 9th installation of the Friday webcomics.
This argument, nature versus nurture, has come up in arguments in many different circles.
The nature versus nurture debates concern the relative importance of an individual’s innate qualities (“nature”, i.e. nativism, or innatism) versus personal experiences (“nurture”, i.e. empiricism or behaviorism) in determining or causing individual differences in physical and behavioral traits. [wiki]
What characteristics are innate? What characteristics are developed by experiences and the environment?
And why is this thought process important?
Personality, some researchers say, may quite possibly be linked to genetics. So when you are in the workplace, or when you are dating a person, and you think there personality is just absurd and want to work on changing it. Think again, it may just be part of who they are… literally!
Now that is not 100% true. There are exceptions and environmental factors that can change things. But, like I said, it is an interesting thought process!
Shoot some thoughts my way.
