Welcome to the 10th installation of the Friday webcomics.
10th installation, eh? That means my site is now at its 10th week. Two and a half months! One-fifth of a year! Yayyy! Thanks for anyone who has become an active reader, by the way. For those of you who haven’t stopped by and commented, I urge you to do so. I would like to personally “meet” each and every one of you!
Sometimes people can get into a lot of trouble at work by simply being insensitive. And usually that is linked to being naive to the fact that they are being insensitive. Just a few weeks ago an employee of 15 years at my company got fired for sending an inappropriate email out to a bunch of people. He sent it out to a distribution list of his friends, or shall I say work associates, but didn’t realize that one of those people was not as close as he thought. The email was political in nature which is usually a big no-no. In the end they decided to make an example of him.
Do I think he was being purposefully insensitive? No. Is there a good chance that the contents of the email were indeed insensitive? Yes. So what do I chalk it up to? He was being naive.
So what is the key take-away? Use that filter that everyone gets “built” with. Turn it on and it should act as a mechanism between your brain and your mouth. You may catch yourself more than you think… and consequently save yourself your career.

I'm MLR. After graduating from college debt free, I decided to write a blog encouraging people to adapt responsible and sensible personal finance rules.

There is always those people whose filter is broke, or not really filtering much. You can find them in every office across the country, sometimes I wonder if my DW is one of them…
