Tuesday already? :) To continue with yesterday’s trend… In honor of the laid back lifestyle I have just left in the Dominican Republic I decided to take my first two days back pretty easy. Being that I was also at an all-inclusive resort I wanted to give you two posts to start this week off that are all-inclusive in their own ways.
Yesterday I posted an All-Inclusive Guide to Taxes for a Recent Graduate.
Today I will wrap up my other series which finished while I was away. The three posts had to do with utilizing technology to eliminate your cable bill!
Cable Killer Series
These three posts range from minor technical aptitude to greater technical aptitude. I made sure to break the post down enough so that if you are not familiar with everything 100% you can still most likely figure it out. If you have questions about any of these posts, feel free to either post here or in the actual post!
Post #1 of 3: Save Money by Connecting Your Computer to Your Television
This post is the most basic. It goes over the process of hooking your computer up to a television, going over different input options. Not only is this the easiest option technically speaking, it is also the cheapest coming in at as low as $5 just for the cable.
Once you pay out that $5 though anything you see on your computer monitor can also be displayed on your TV!
Post #2 of 3: Save Money and Make Your Xbox 360 Wireless for $20
This is probably the hardest one technically speaking. It requires some knowledge of network settings and configuration. You need to change some things around, run a TFTP, and change firmware. Most of it is automatic, but if you are very bad with technology I would probably just stick away from this one.
Once you do this tutorial your Xbox will be connected to a wireless bridge which can also connect other devices to your network. You can now set up file sharing on your computer and play files on your Xbox onto your TV.
Post #3 of 3: Save Money by Streaming Television & Movies Through Your Xbox 360 or PS3
This walk through will work well if you have your console hooked up wirelessly so that you can put your console on whatever TV you want to be the home theater. It will work just as well if you have it hooked up with a wire, though.
I recommend a piece of software that costs $40 that allows you to stream Hulu (TV & Movies), Netflix, CNN, ESPN, CBS, YouTube, and possibly more channels to come.
Other Suggestions?
Anyone else have a pretty good cable killer technique? Let us know!

I wrote an article on the steps we just followed, we don’t have a 360 or a PS3 but the ‘Playon’ software package is supposed to be working for our Wii soon. In the mean time we bought a Roku to play Netflix and my wife goes to the library weekly to get videos for our daughter.

@Jason –
Awesome, I have heard a lot of good things about Roku. But it just so happened I had gotten the Xbox 360 as a gift already which essentially does the same thing it seems!
I will look into the Roku more tomorrow to see what kinds of options it has, thanks for the reminder.

Welcome back, MLI!
We are definately entering a new frontier when it comes to video. As the high speed infrastucture gets built up, the demand for high quality, streaming video will increase.
I’m curious to see what the cable giants are going to do to embrace it. Will we see an (affordable) a la carte solution?
While my wife and I still have cable, we have thought about other means to watch the shows we want (unfortunately, not all are available online) and getting rid of cable all together. It’d be nice to get rid of that ugly bill.
Stupidly Yours,
Matt
